Fortnite has had well over a million daily players on average through 2025, according to the tracker ActivePlayer.io, with its biggest spike coming at the Remix: The Finale event on 30 November 2024, which the site records at over 14 million peak players. Epic has also talked about more than 650 million accounts created since 2017. These are tracker and company figures, so treat them as estimates and check the source for anything recent.

The numbers we can point to

ActivePlayer.io records an average daily count and a peak for each month. In its table, the monthly daily average ran from about 880,000 to over 1.4 million across 2025, with spikes around events. In 2023 and 2024 the average sat higher, reaching a bit over 3 million in December 2023, the month after the launch of Fortnite OG. Fortnite.gg, which tracks live concurrent players, is a good place to look at today's number.

One thing to keep in mind: peaks and averages are different things. A live event can add millions of players for an afternoon without changing how busy the game is on an ordinary Tuesday.

Why it spikes

  • Live events. Finales, concerts and story events pull people in all at once. We list the main kinds in our Fortnite live events article.
  • Nostalgia modes. Fortnite OG sent the numbers to a record in November 2023.
  • New seasons and crossovers. Marvel, Star Wars and music collaborations keep the game in the news.
  • Time of year. Winter holidays are usually busiest, and early spring tends to be quieter.

Why the game stays popular

Fortnite kept reinventing itself. It started as the co-op Save the World mode, became a battle royale, then added Zero Build, Creative, Festival, LEGO Fortnite and Rocket Racing. It's free, runs on almost every platform, and has a huge social side. For the history behind that shift, see our look at Fortnite's history.

How it compares

PUBG still draws a healthy crowd on Steam, and Marvel Rivals launched in late 2024 with big numbers. Neither is close to Fortnite's peaks, and the comparison is murky because Fortnite doesn't run on Steam. For a real side-by-side of the games' design, read Fortnite vs PUBG.
