Pick Marvel Rivals for superhero chaos, destructible maps and team-up abilities. Pick Overwatch for a tighter, more established 5v5 with a long competitive history. Both are hero shooters, and neither is a bad choice, but they ask you to play differently.

Heroes and abilities
Marvel Rivals builds abilities around the comics: web-slinging for Spider-Man, repulsor blasts for Iron Man, raw strength for Hulk. That makes picking a hero feel familiar if you know the characters. Overwatch heroes are original and tuned so that no single character runs away with games. Our Marvel Rivals hero guide covers the roster by role.
Team play
With six players per side, Marvel Rivals leans on combined abilities. Some heroes gain extra abilities when paired, and switching heroes mid-match to counter the other team is normal. Overwatch dropped to five players, with one tank per team, so individual play carries more weight, and roles are rigid: tank, damage, support. If you want the Overwatch details, we have a guide to the support role and another for aim.
Maps
This is Marvel Rivals' most visible difference. Buildings collapse and walls break, so the map changes during a fight. Overwatch maps are fixed and designed around chokepoints, flanks and high ground, which makes positioning predictable and tactical.
Competitive scene
Overwatch has years of esports history and a stable ranked ladder. Marvel Rivals is newer, and its ranked system is still taking shape. We explain the current ladder in the ranking explainer.
Who should play which
- Marvel Rivals: you like the Marvel setting, chaotic fights and combining abilities with teammates.
- Overwatch: you prefer polish, structured roles and a mature competitive environment.
You can play both, and many people do. We sell cheats for both games, which you can see on the Marvel Rivals cheat page and the Overwatch cheat page. Neither is risk free, and permanent bans are possible. Check live status before every session.
